The study of the eye has a long and commendable history in civilization. The Chinese, for example, discerned health tendencies from the size, shape and set of the eyes, and in the Ayurvedic tradition of India the colour of the eyes is part of the description of a person’s Prakriti (constitution).
Modern Iridology is defined as the study and analysis of the coloured section of the eye known as the Iris. It is usually carried out by a professional natural health practitioner, in order to determine factors that may be important in the prevention of ill health, as well as in the attainment of optimum health. It is an assessment of inherited and acquired health risks. Iridology uses magnification of the iris to dertermine these health tendancies.
Iridology can help individuals to understand the total picture of their health and provides a valuable cross-check for other forms of health evaluation. It can be seen as a useful diagnostic tool particuarly for preventative health. The iris can help reveal the potential disposition to certain health imbalances, before we would otherwise become aware of them. Every part of the body relates to a different section of the iris, which can help you pinpoint imbalances.
During Iridology consultations the practitioner describes how the iris reveals inherent characteristics of the body, and patterns of accumulation specific to the individual's health. We look first at the inherent constitutional factors – hereditary weaknesses or tendencies, many of which can be verified by an examination of family history. Then we look at the possible accumulation of influences that has built up over the course of life, for example, this could be raised levels of cholesterol in the blood or any other factor.
Most health concerns are actually considered to be caused by some kind of congestive blockage of vital energy or function. Iridology can reveal where this blockage is likely to be.
Each assessment of individual characteristics during an Iridology consultation is followed with a practical therapeutic strategy in order to achieve the desired outcome: supporting homeostasis of the body, preservation of health and achieving optimal health.
The iris is like a fingerprint – unique to every person. It can help you to see how your lifestyle is affecting your health. Essentially, Iridology can help aid your own pattern of good health and well-being.
As a practising naturopath it is vital to listen and understand your health concerns and take detailed case histories to make an initial assessment. The eyes then provide the 'fine tuning' analysis and in conjunction with any other assessments or therapies to detail a comprehensive personalised plan. Ill health past and present can still be visible, recorded in the iris, and measures can be taken to prevent re-ocurrence in the form of an individually tailored treatment plan. |
